ABOUT

Chinese Medicine

Just as with Western Medicine, the model of Chinese Medicine is a whole system of  thought outlining how the body functions, it's interconnections and what's required to create and maintain optimal health.
These myriad facets inform how Chinese Medicine practitioners diagnose and implement individual treatments.

WHY CHOOSE CHINESE MEDICINE?

Some people think that Chinese Medicine, especially acupuncture, is just for aches and pains, for muscular/bio mechanical issues. It is of course for these issues, but to reduce it to just that dismisses a whole world and depth of the medicine. Being a medicine that has been healing people for millennia, Chinese Medicine offers a myriad of potential for facilitating health in all meanings of the term.  Traditionally patients only paid their practitioners when they were well and stopped when they got sick! This gives you a glimpse into the preventative and powerful axis that Chinese Medicine stands within.

Nature

Chinese Medicine is an ancient medicine that has its roots in nature and is concerned with how each individual's internal and external environment interacts with the cycles of life.

Chinese Medicine is not a system of disease but a system of preventative medicine aimed at identifying the root cause of current and chronic disharmonies in the body and, through a variety of modalities, recreating homeostasis.

At the heart of Chinese Medicine is the view that each individual's system is different and as such each person needs a thoughtful and personalised treatment of care.

Qi

Chinese Medicine is based on the understanding that there are circulations of 'qi' through nature and throughout the body. When optimal, these circulations (meridians) aid in the functioning health of the body. When interrupted for whatever reason - physical injury, emotional turmoil, poor diet/sleep etc, there can be effects in how your system operates, manifesting in a variety of symptoms.

What is qi? This is something that is more easily felt than understood theoretically. If you're interested, when you come in for an appointment, please ask - there are a variety of things to point to that will give you a deeper experiential understanding.
